Bad costumes for Children’s Theater fundraiser, United Way Ad, inducted into the Oklahoma Heritage Association, another surgery, dealing with major arthritis, Etnies premier, Austin visit…
I left off back in late April.  So let’s start there.  I was invited to go to a Children’s Theater fundraiser called the “Fairytale Ball”.  I assumed it was a 'dress up like a fairy' type event because, well… why wouldn’t it be?  So I took the opportunity and borrowed one of Gianna’s Fairy costumes and Jet, Gianna, Jaci and I dressed up as fairy characters.  My costume was a bit tight and disturbing, but funny in a fairy gone badway.

Anyway, when we go there I noticed we were the only ones dressed up and it was a very formal black tie event.  ha ha ha.  Nobody knew what to think of us.  I had a fairy wand in one hand and a tall glass of whiskey in the other.  It was one of those memories that will make me laugh forever.

The next day I did a United Way ad/promotion – I left the fairy custom home, but in retrospect that would have been a good one if I had done this ad with it…

On May 10th Oklahoma City had the grand opening for a Museum downtown called the Oklahoma Heritage Association.   I was asked to be part of an interactive exhibit called Individualism.   The museum is amazing.  They invested 15 million bucks in it and it show.  Word.

On May 12th Jet turned 4.  Here’s a little song he wrote.

I started riding around a bit. I’ve been out since my 6th ACL surgery I had in January.  This had been a tough surgery to come back from.  I brought Jet and Gianna out to the park and we had a family session.  It was a dream to shred with my kids.  Everything was going good until I landed a bit low on this step up hip that comes out of the vert bowl.  The landing had chipped a piece of scar tissue off and it got caught under my kneecap.  This locked my leg up and I had to stiff leg it out of the park.  This was a similar thing that had happen 10 months before on my other knee, but I slammed on a tomahawk during a photo shoot for the exhibit at the Oklahoma Heritage Museum...   weird.  Now both knees are really sensitive beyond just my left leg being locked up.

I gave it a couple days and it was just getting worst, so I did some research and noticed I was having symptoms of metabolic arthritis ‘the gout’. Both knees were miserable and I was having difficulty getting out of the chair.  I went to Dr. Yates and we had to do surgery anyway to take that locked up scar tissue out.  He fit me in the next day and found a bunch of uric acid crystals embedded into the articular cartilage.  This is a major sign of metabolic arthritis, the gout.  To give you a better understanding for the pain, it’s similar to sharp pieces of glass cutting through your joint.  Take it.

Yates fixed my knee and after further research I could either have to take a drug called 'allopurinol' everyday to keep my uric acids at a reduced level or stop eating purine-rich foods (meat- including fish, tofu, beer, wine, mushrooms, spinach) the list goes on, but I’m on a crazy diet now. Arthritis isn’t going to take me out!!

The day after surgery I went down to Austin to check out the Etnies Grounded premier.  Stew invited me down and I couldn’t pass it up, gimp leg and all.  The film was amazing the Austin crew is amazing.  There’s a lot of history in that town that I’ve experienced since the early 80’s.  Here’s a picture of one of the first comps I rode in Austin.  This was 1985.  I ran into the gambler James Shepard ‘Sheps’!  Ain’t nothing changed with the Sheps except his limp and his gambling problem.  He is still the King of San Diego.

Anyway. I got back home in time for the last day of my kids School and got packed up for a trip to Switzerland.
